Bhopal: According to big news, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Dwarka and Jyotimath, has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 99 at Paramhansa Ganga Ashram in the Narsinghpur district. Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was born on 2 September 1924 in a Brahmin family in Dighori village near Jabalpur in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh state. His father’s name was Shri Dhanpati Upadhyay and his mother’s name was Smt. Girija Devi. His parents named him Pothiram Upadhyay. At the age of nine, he left home and started religious pilgrimages.
Joined the freedom struggle
Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati reached Kashi during this time. He took the education of Brahmalin Sri Swami Karpatri Maharaj Veda-Vedang, scriptures. This was the time when the fight to free India from the British was going on. When the slogan of Quit India was raised in 1942, he also joined the freedom struggle. At the age of 19, he became famous as a ‘revolutionary sadhu’. Swami had to go to jail during this struggle. He also served nine months in Varanasi jail and six months in Madhya Pradesh jail. In 1950, he was made a Dandi Sanyasi. At the same time, he got the title of Shankaracharya in 1981. In 1950, Sharda Peeth took initiation from Shankaracharya Swami Brahmanand Saraswati and became known as Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati.
Tomorrow will be the funeral
The last rites of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati will be held at Jhoteshwar tomorrow at 3.30 pm. Tonight and tomorrow the body will be kept for the last darshan. Significantly, Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was ill for a long time. Tomorrow, Samadhi will be given in his ashram itself. Swami celebrated his 99th birthday a few days back.
