New Delhi: On one hand, the electricity crisis seems to be dominating the country. At the same time, Amit Shah had an important meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Energy Minister RK Singh, and Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi in this regard on Tuesday. If sources are to be believed, this meeting was about the energy crisis. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and important officials of the Ministry of Coal were also present at this important meeting.
This meeting was held in the Ministry of Home Affairs and this discussion was held regarding the situation of coal and power in the country. It is noteworthy that Amit Shah presided over the meeting. In this meeting that lasted for about an hour on Tuesday, the four ministers discussed the availability of coal in the power plant, as well as the demand for energy. At the same time, after meeting with Amit Shah, now today RK Singh will hold a high-level meeting regarding the power crisis in Maharashtra and Delhi.
Deepening power crisis
It is to be known that a similar meeting was also held in October last year when there was a similar coal crisis in the country. Anyway, there is a lot of problem with electricity in many states. In such a situation, due to the supply of coal in the power plant, the power crisis may increase even more in the coming time.
In this sequence, there is a severe power crisis in 12 states of the country, namely Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Haryana, where there is a power cut of up to 3-8.7%. At the same time, in April 2022, the demand for electricity has also reached its record level. Similarly, in October last year also, there was a power crisis of 1.1%, while this year in the month of April 1. There is a power crisis of 4%.
At the same time, due to power shortage, problems have increased in UP, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. These states have started power cuts. Now to keep the situation normal, states like Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are buying expensive power.
What is the condition of Delhi-Maharashtra?
Let us tell you that the demand for electricity has also increased in Delhi. At the same time, due to the heat, the demand for electricity in Delhi reached 5,735 MW on Tuesday, which is the highest ever in April. This has increased by more than 28% as compared to April 1. The power demand at that time was recorded at 4,469 MW. On the other hand, the peak demand for electricity was 5,641 MW a day earlier. Similarly, earlier on 30 April 2019, the demand had reached 5,664 MW.
At the same time, Maharashtra’s Energy Minister issued a statement and presented shocking figures about the state’s coal stock on April 14-15. Yes, Maharashtra’s Energy Minister Nitin Raut had told that in some plants in Maharashtra only one and a half days of coal, in some plants 3 days, and in some plants only 6 days of coal is left. However, he claimed during this time that the Maharashtra government is continuously working on it to overcome the power crisis. If seen, there is a shortage of 2500 MW power in Maharashtra at present.
However, according to a report, with the onset of summer, coal reserves in the country’s power plants have reached their lowest level in nine years. Electricity consumption in factories and industries has now increased significantly due to industrial activities getting back on track after the Corona lockdown.
