Lucknow: Several leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu, were arrested on Monday in protest against the ongoing deadlock between the state government and the Raj Bhavan for convening an assembly session in Rajasthan. Party’s state media convenor Lallan Kumar said that about 150 Congress leaders and activists, including Lalu and Rajya Sabha MP PL Punia, who had come to sit on the Raj Bhavan against the “murder of democracy” by the BJP in Rajasthan, were arrested by the police. Police sources said that as soon as Uttar Pradesh Congress President Lallu, Rajya Sabha member Punia and his comrades reached the main gate of Raj Bhavan and started a sit-in demonstration, the police immediately removed them and arrested them. All those caught have been taken to the Eco Garden. Lallu told ‘Bhasha’ over the phone that when the country is facing the epidemic crisis, the ruling BJP is trying to topple elected governments instead of taking effective measures to deal with it.
He alleged, “BJP did not allow Congress to form government despite misuse of Raj Bhavan in Goa with maximum seats.” Apart from this, he seized power by toppling the governments of Karnataka, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh and tried to destabilize the government in Punjab and Maharashtra as well. The same action is now being done in Rajasthan as well. In all these cases, the role of the Rajbhavans of the respective states has been questioned. ” The state Congress president said that his party will fight against these political machinations of the BJP and the conspiracy to murder democracy. Congress national spokesperson Punia said the BJP was acting as a “political robber”. He alleged that it does not matter for the BJP who the people have chosen. Punia said that the BJP thinks that even if the people have not chosen it in the elections, it can form a government by trampling the mandate on the basis of its immense wealth by buying MLAs.
He said that after toppling the elected governments in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is now trying the same in Rajasthan. Punia said that the Rajasthan government cabinet passed a resolution calling for the assembly session and sent it to Governor Kalraj Mishra, but the proposal has been turned down at the behest of BJP. The intention behind this is also that the Assembly membership of Sachin Pilot, who was plotting to destabilize the state government, can be saved. Significantly, the Congress has called on its workers to protest in front of Raj Bhavans across the country to protest against the ongoing deadlock between the government and the Raj Bhavan for calling an assembly session in Rajasthan.
