Washington: U.S. officials said Thursday that Russian hackers stole data from at least two servers and targeted dozens of networks in the country and local governments. The warning issued less than two weeks before the US presidential election has raised fears of possible vote-rigging and undermined the credibility of the results.

The warning refers to the recent activities of Russian-sponsored hacking groups against the country and local networks. U.S. officials warned of Iranian intervention at a news conference Wednesday night. The consultation with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security’s cyber security agency then outlines Russia’s potential capabilities.
U.S. officials have not said who the Russian hackers targeted. Officials said they have not received any information that this attempt by hackers could affect elections or government functions or threaten the integrity of election data. The US presidential election is scheduled for November 3.
