New Delhi: Swiss tennis great Roger Federer announced his retirement from tennis on Thursday. “Next week’s Laver Cup will be their last ATP tournament,” he said.
Federer posted on Instagram, saying, “As many of you know, the last three years have given me challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I have worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know the capabilities and limits of my body, and the message I’ve been holding dear lately. I am 41 years old.”
Federer said, “I have played more than 1,500 matches in 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than ever before, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career. He added, “Next week in London the Laver Cup will be my last ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, certainly, but not at the Grand Slam or the Tour.”
