New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has ordered Wikipedia to remove the link showing an incorrect map of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the news agency ANI, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an order to Wikipedia, citing Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The government has been instructed to remove the link from Wikipedia which shows the wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, the matter was exposed by a Twitter user, on which the Ministry took action.

Sources said that the Twitter user had highlighted the Indo-Bhutan relationship on the Wikipedia page, where the map shown misrepresented Jammu and Kashmir. According to official information, the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad, took cognizance of this and issued an order on November 27, instructing Wikipedia to remove the page as it was a violation of territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The government can ban the website!
If Wikipedia does not comply with this government order, the government may take legal action against it. This includes restrictions on the website.
The government has already taken action
However, this is not the first time that the Indian government has shown strictness in showing a wrong map of India on a platform. Earlier, Twitter had shown Leh as part of the People’s Republic of China (China), after which the Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey objecting to it. Twitter then apologized in writing to a parliamentary panel.
