Lahore: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accused the country’s military and intelligence agency ISI of overthrowing him and bringing Imran Khan into power to form his “puppet government”. Sharif was addressing the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of 11 opposition parties in Gujranwala, about 80 km from Lahore. He addressed the event late Friday night via video link from London.
On 20 September, opposition parties announced the formation of PDM and a three-phase anti-government campaign. Under this, public meetings, demonstrations and rallies will be held across the country to remove the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government from power. In January 2021, a long march will be held for Islamabad.
Taking a dig at the military leadership, Sharif said, “(Army Chief) General Qamar Javed Bajwa overthrew my government.” He rigged the 2018 elections and imposed Nakabil Imran Khan on the country. General Bajwa is a direct criminal and he has to answer for it. He also accused Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of being behind his government’s demolition and said that the whole episode took place with the help of ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.
