Moscow: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not travel to New Delhi for the G20 summit scheduled for September 9-10. “No, the president has no such plans,” Peskov told the official Tass news agency. He added that the mode of Putin’s participation would be decided later.

Putin also missed the 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, which was held in person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. He sent Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as his representative. Putin’s decision came after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for his arrest in March, accusing him of plotting to kidnap Ukrainian children and send them to Russia.

South Africa is a party to the ICC and there were concerns that it would cooperate with the court to detain Putin upon his arrival.’
