
Lahore: An illegal Islamist political group in Pakistan has freed 11 police officials held hostage on Sunday amid violent clashes with security forces in Lahore. Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed gave the above information. Supporters of the radical Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan Party attacked a police station on Sunday and took policemen, hostage.
The group is opposing the arrest of its leader Saad Rizvi and is pressurizing Prime Minister Imran Khan to release Rizvi immediately. Initially, the police had said that the protesting group had taken five policemen hostage. Later in a video message, Home Minister Ahmed said that 11 policemen have been taken hostage by Rizvi’s supporters.

He said that the policemen have been released after the first round of talks with the government were successful. The Ministry has released a picture showing that the policemen have been tortured.
