New Delhi: President Ramnath Kovind has given his approval to the agricultural bills passed by Parliament recently. On Sunday, the President signed his three Bills. After which now this Act has been implemented in the whole country. Due to this agriculture bill brought by Modi government, a political controversy has arisen at this time and farmers of Punjab and Haryana are protesting.

According to the Gazette notification, the President approved three Bills.

These Bills are –

1) Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020,

2) Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance Contracts and Agricultural Services Bill, 2020

3) Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020. Farmers The Product Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 aims to allow the sale of agricultural produce outside the mandis regulated by the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs) constituted by various state legislatures.

The purpose of the Price Assurance Contract and Farming Services Bill for Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) is to allow contract farming. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill regulates the production, supply, distribution of food items such as cereals, pulses, potatoes, onions and edible oilseeds.

All opposition including Akali protested
While the BJP is declaring the agricultural bill passed by the Parliament as farmer friendly, all the parties including the Congress are calling it an art law brought to eliminate the farmers. The President has approved them in the face of opposition from the way these bills were passed in Parliament.

Akali Dal separates from NDA
The Shiromani Akali Dal has broken its ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after the resignation of Harsimrat Kaur from the Union Cabinet in protest against these bills. Ever since the introduction of agricultural bills in the Lok Sabha, the Akali Dal was constantly targeted by farmers and opponents.
