PM gives Rs 224 crore relief to Hukumchand Mill workers on Vajpayee’s birth anniversary

New Delhi: On the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary and Good Governance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a special gift to the workers of Hukumchand Mill in Indore. He handed over checks worth about Rs 224 crore to the official liquidator and the heads of the labor union of the mill, which has been closed for over two decades.

The Prime Minister addressed the program ‘Dedicated to the welfare of workers, to the workers’ organized at Kanakeshwari Ground through video conference. He praised the workers for their perseverance and patience in fighting for their rights. He said that the money will reach the workers in the coming days and will help them secure their future.

He also expressed his happiness that his first public program in Madhya Pradesh after the formation of the new BJP government and the appointment of the new Chief Minister was for the benefit of the laborers. He said that he felt satisfied to attend such a program and to fulfill the dreams of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had a special bond with the state.

He recalled that when the package was announced to the workers of Hukumchand Mill, there was a festive atmosphere in Indore. He said that this decision has further increased the festive joy among the workers and the people of Indore. He said that December 25 will be remembered as the day when the workers got justice and dignity.

He also urged the workers to use the money wisely and to invest in their education, health, and skill development. He said that the government is committed to the welfare of the workers and the poor and will continue to work for their empowerment. He also thanked the Supreme Court, the High Court, and the official liquidator for their cooperation in resolving the long-pending issue of the mill.
