New Delhi: Pakistan once again resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling along the International Border in Jammu on October 26, injuring one Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and four civilians. The incident occurred at around 8 p.m. in the Arnia and RS Pura sectors, where Pakistani Rangers targeted five Indian posts with small arms and mortar fire.
According to a BSF spokesperson, the Indian troops retaliated effectively and strongly to the Pakistani aggression. The injured BSF jawan was shifted to GMC Hospital in Jammu for specialized treatment. The condition of the four civilians, who were hit by splinters of mortar shells, is said to be stable.
The firing from the Pakistani side coincided with the day when security forces eliminated five Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in a fierce encounter near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Kashmir. The security forces recovered five AK series rifles and a large quantity of arms and ammunition from the slain terrorists.
The residents of Arnia and RS Pura sectors, who were forced to stay indoors due to the heavy shelling, expressed fear and anxiety over the situation. A local man said that such an incident had happened after two or three years. A local woman said that the firing started at 8 p.m. and lasted for a long time. She said that such an incident had happened after four or five years.
This is the second consecutive incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the last 10 days. Earlier on October 17, Pakistani Rangers had also fired indiscriminately in the Arnia sector, injuring two BSF soldiers. Pakistan has been repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement along the LoC and the International Border since February 25, 2021, despite the mutual understanding to maintain peace and tranquility.
