Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offenses Unit (EOW) of Odisha Police is likely to interrogate Bollywood actor Govinda in connection with the online ponzi scam worth around Rs 1,000 crore. EOW Deputy Superintendent of Police Sasmita Sahu, who was part of the team investigating the multi-crore scam involving Solar Techno Alliance (STA-Token), gave this information.
According to the EOW, the company was illegally involved in a pyramid structure-based online Ponzi scheme that was being run in the name of investing in crypto. Sahu said, ‘We can send summons to Govinda for questioning before the EOW or a team can be sent to Mumbai in this regard.
He said that Govinda had participated in the massive program of STA organized in Goa in July this year and had promoted the company in some videos. Sahu said that EOW is not considering Govinda as a suspect or accused. However, another official said that the video has proved Govinda’s role in the company’s promotion.
He said, that if EWO finds that Govinda’s role was limited to mere promotion of (STA-Token brand) products under the agreement, then we will make him a witness in the case.
Last month, the EOW arrested Ponzi company chief Gurtej Singh and its Odisha in-charge Narada Das. The Economic Offenses Wing said in an official statement that the company had collected Rs 30 crore from around 10,000 people in Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Bhubaneswar districts of Odisha.
Meanwhile, the Immigration Bureau has issued a lookout notice against Hungarian national David Gage. It is alleged that Gage was leading a Ponzi company that lured people in the name of investing in cryptocurrency through social media and encouraged investors to join more people.
