New Delhi: On behalf of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, 1989 batch IPS officer of Kerala Cadre Nitin Agarwal (BSF New DG Nitin Agarwal) has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF). was appointed. After the retirement of Pankaj Kumar Singh on December 31, 2022, the post of BSF chief was vacant for about 5 months.
The proposal of the Union Home Ministry was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) last Sunday. After this, a notification regarding the appointment of Nitin Agarwal as BSF Director General (BSF DG) was issued late at night. Agarwal is currently posted as Additional Director General of Operations at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Headquarters in Delhi.
Let us inform you that an order in this regard was issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Sunday night in which Agarwal was appointed as the Director General of BSF. Till now CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thousen (CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thousen) was handling the additional responsibility of the BSF Director General. His tenure will be till his superannuation on July 31, 2026, or until further orders.
Meanwhile, Nitin Agarwal’s appointment took place on a day when BSF started 4-day border talks with its Bangladeshi counterpart Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Delhi. Thorsen is leading the BSF delegation for the talks. The Bangladesh delegation is being led by BGB DG Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan.
Newly appointed DG Nitin Agarwal is expected to take charge after the conclusion of the talks on June 14. The nearly 2.65 lakh personnel strong BSF is primarily tasked with guarding the Indian borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh apart from performing various duties in the internal security sector of the country.
