London: The extradition case of fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi, wanted in India on charges of fraud and money laundering, is likely to reach the final stage in Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Tuesday.
The 49-year-old diamond trader, who is fighting extradition in a nearly 2 billion scam involving Punjab National Bank (PNB), will appear in a video link from Wandsworth Prison in south-west London for a fresh hearing in the case. District Judge Samuel Goozy will hear Nirav’s defense arguments against the admissibility of some of the evidence provided by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to prove the case against the accused prima facie.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), arguing on behalf of the Indian authorities, will insist that the evidence meets the standards required for a UK court to consider whether Nirav Modi’s case is a matter of Indian justice. Whether or not to be sent to the system.
