Bengaluru: A tragic incident occurred at the Rameshwaram Cafe, one of the most popular food joints in Bengaluru, on Friday afternoon. A mysterious object, kept inside a bag, exploded at around 1 pm, killing four people and injuring several others. The blast took place at the Whitefield branch of the cafe, located in the Rajajinagar area of the city.
The deceased included three staff members of the cafe and one customer, who were near the bag. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. The blast also caused damage to the cafe premises and nearby vehicles.
The police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident. The Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Whitefield area, Shubhkaran Singh, said that the cause of the blast is not yet clear, but ruled out any terrorist angle. He said that the forensic team is examining the bag and the explosive material used in the blast.
The Whitefield Fire Station officials said that they received a call about a cylinder explosion at the cafe and reached the spot immediately. They said that they are assisting the police and the rescue teams in the operation.
The Rameshwaram Cafe is a well-known eatery in Bengaluru, famous for its South Indian cuisine and filter coffee. The cafe has several outlets across the city and attracts a large number of customers every day.
