Houston: Indian-origin millionaire businessman Shri Thanedar has been elected to the Michigan House of Representatives with 93 percent of the vote. He also ran for governor two years ago.
Thanedar (65) is also a Scientist and had raised a record amount of 4 4,38,620 for the Election Campaign, most of which was his own contribution. He defeated six opponents to win the Democratic Party. He won Michigan’s third constituency with 93 percent of the vote.
Originally from Belagavi, Karnataka, Thanedar received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in chemistry from Mumbai University at the age of 18. He moved to the United States in 1979 to pursue higher education at Arkansas University, and later at the University of Michigan.
