Kolkata: Veteran actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty, who was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday after suffering a stroke, is now out of the ICU and feeling better, according to his colleagues and family members. The 73-year-old actor, who has been awarded the Padma Bhushan this year, was shooting for a film in the city when he experienced weakness in his right limbs and speech difficulty.
He was rushed to the Apollo Multispeciality Hospital, where he underwent several tests, including an MRI of the brain. The hospital confirmed that he had an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain, which is caused by a blockage of blood flow to a part of the brain. He was given the necessary treatment and kept under observation in the ICU.
On Sunday, actress Debashree Roy and director Pathikrit Basu visited Mithun at the hospital and shared his health update with the media. Roy, who was supposed to shoot with Mithun on February 23, said that he was feeling much better and had recovered from the stroke. She said that he was taken to the hospital in time and his sugar levels, which had gone down, were now normal. She added that he was now recuperating in a room and was in good spirits.
Basu, who is directing Mithun in the film Shastri, said that he had met him and he was doing well. He said that Mithun had assured him that he would resume shooting after a few days and had talked about his plans for the film. He said that Mithun was a fighter and a legend and he was confident that he would bounce back soon.
Mithun’s son Mahaakshay Chakraborty and wife Yogita Bali also spoke to the media and said that he was fine and it was just a routine check-up. They said that he had eaten a soft diet and was fully conscious and well-oriented. They thanked the fans and well-wishers for their prayers and support.
Mithun Chakraborty is one of the most popular and versatile actors in the Indian film industry. He has acted in over 350 films in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bhojpuri languages. He has won three National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards for his performances. He is known for his iconic roles in films like Disco Dancer, Agneepath, Mrigayaa, Tahader Katha, Guru, and OMG: Oh My God. He is also the founder of the All India Trinamool Congress party and a former Rajya Sabha member.
