London: The Duchess of Sussex, the wife of Prince Harry of Britain, Megan Merkel, filed a lawsuit against the Associated News Papers Limited (ANL) in the London High Court for breach of privacy. After winning, the verdict was described as “an overall victory for privacy and copyright”.
ANL had published excerpts from letters written by Merkel to her father. Merkel sued the publishers of ‘Mail on Sunday’ and ‘Mail Online’ for publishing these private and personal letters. In this case, Judge Mark Verby ruled in favor of Merkel.
The judge said, “The plaintiff had a reasonable expectation that the contents of the letter be kept private. Mail articles did not meet this reasonable expectation. ” Merkel also thanked her husband Prince Harry for supporting her during this process. “I am grateful to the court that after two years of trial, Associated Newspapers and The Mail were held accountable for their illegal and inhuman activities,” Merkel said in a statement after the verdict.
He said, “It’s a game for these newspapers. For me and many others, it is real life, real relationships and real sadness. ” Merkel called the decision an “absolute victory for privacy and copyright.” Meanwhile, an ANL spokesperson said, “We are surprised and disappointed by today’s decision.” We did not get a chance to present complete evidence. ” According to the BBC, the spokesperson said, “We are studying the decision and will take a decision later on further appeals.”
