New Delhi: The Maruti Suzuki Jimny launched in the competition of Mahindra Thar is currently in the news. Maruti has launched the 5-door version of the Jimny globally at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023 in Noida. The company has already started booking for the new off-road SUV on the official website and at Maruti’s Nexa dealership. The special thing is that more than 3,000 people have booked this off-road lifestyle sports utility vehicle in just 2 days.
The price of the 5-door version of Maruti Suzuki is expected to be revealed in April or May this year. It will fit between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara in the company’s Indian line-up. When launched, the Jimny will directly compete with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in the Indian market.
SUV will come with a 4X4 system
The Jimny’s engine may disappoint SUV lovers a bit, as it will get the same 1.5-liter K-Series naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Brezza, which will make 103 bhp max power and 134 Nm peak torque. The company is not offering any diesel engine option in it, as seen in Thar. Also, the SUV gets the old K15B engine and not the K15C engine that we see in the new Maruti cars. However, the company has added 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT to the transmission options along with the AllGrip Pro 4X4 system for better off-road handling.
Thar is bigger or Jimny?
Maruti Jimny and Mahindra Thar are off-road SUVs with boxy designs. Both SUVs are built on a ladder frame platform. While the Thar gets round-shaped headlamps, the Jimny gets all LED units and also gets headlamp washers. However, in terms of looks, the Thar looks more attractive and bigger. The Thar gets 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Jimny gets 15-inch alloy wheels. However, the ground clearance of both SUVs is good. Both SUVs have been introduced in 6 color shades.
What will be the cost?
Mahindra Thar currently prices in India range from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 16.29 lakh ex-showroom. The prices of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door SUV are yet to be revealed. Its ex-showroom price is expected to be between Rs. 10 lacks to Rs. 14 lacks. When launched, this off-road SUV will compete with the Force Gurkha and some SUVs available in this price segment.
