Mahindra Scorpio new models being well received, waiting period reaches 20 months

New Delhi: Mahindra launched Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic in the Indian market in 2022. Both these new models are well-liked in the Indian market. The demand for these cars is so high in the market that the waiting period for them has reached 20 months.


The new Scorpio twins have managed to take on all the SUVs in the mid-size segment including the XUV700, Hector, Harrier, Safari, and Alcazar.

Mahindra sold a total of 8,788 units of Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic in March 2023 as compared to 6,061 units sold in the same month last year. The Scorpio nameplate registered a year-on-year sales growth of 44.99 percent. The SUV registered a month-on-month sales growth of 26.45 percent.

Mahindra XUV700 is at number two with sales of 5,107 units in the month of March 2023. It registered a negative YoY sales growth of 15.45 percent. MG Motor India sold 4,105 units of the Hector and Hector Plus in March 2023, as against 2,019 units sold in the same month last year. Tata Motors sold 2,561 units of Harrier and 1,890 units of Safari in March 2023. Hyundai Alcazar reported total sales of 2,519 units last month.

Engine options
The Mahindra Scorpio N is available with two engine options – a 2.0-liter turbo petrol and a 2.2-liter turbo diesel. The diesel engine offers two types of tunes – 132bhp/300Nm and 175bhp and 370Nm (MT)/400Nm (AT). The petrol engine produces 203bhp and 370Nm (MT) / 380Nm (AT) torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

Diesel variants are exclusively available with a 4WD drivetrain system. Powering the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is a 2.2-liter Gen 2 mHawk turbo diesel engine that produces 132bhp and 300Nm of torque. This car is equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine is 55 kg lighter than the previous unit, which makes it 14 percent fuel efficient.
