Srinagar: PDP president Mahbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that it is very painful to see the Banjars in Jammu and Kashmir being ‘tortured and made homeless’. He also requested Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene to stop it.
Mehbooba on Monday visited the high places of Pahalgam in Anantnag district of south Kashmir where the administration has demolished the ‘dhoks’ (temporary shelters) of the banjars as part of a campaign to remove encroachments. Meanwhile, Mehbooba warned the government about removing the people of Gujjar-Bakkarwal community from the forests of Jammu and Kashmir and said that the result of torturing them would be very bad.

Mehbooba tweeted on Tuesday, “It is very painful to see Banjaras being tortured and made homeless in Jammu and Kashmir. They have got residential rights and now they are being removed on the basis of discrimination. Manoj Sinha, please intervene and make sure it stops. ” On Monday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief also accused the Center of failing to enforce the Forest Act, which could have protected the people of the Gujjar-Bakkarwal community.
