Indian Consulate in San Francisco attacked

Washington: A group of pro-Khalistan protesters on Sunday attacked and damaged the Indian Consulate in San Francisco. Indian Americans strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate action against those responsible.

‘Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies’ regarding the attack on the Indian Consulate. (FIIDS) said, “We are appalled by the law and order failure in London as well as in San Francisco, where some radical separatists attacked India’s diplomatic mission.

Raising pro-Khalistan slogans, the protesters broke temporary security barriers erected by the city police and put up two so-called Khalistani flags inside the consulate complex. Consulate personnel soon removed these flags. Soon after, a group of angry protesters entered the Indian Consulate complex and damaged doors and windows.

There was no immediate comment from San Francisco police on the incident. Ajay Bhutoria, a leader of the Indian-American community, strongly condemned the attack on India’s consulate building in San Francisco by pro-Khalistan protesters.

“This act of violence is not only a threat to diplomatic relations between the US and India but also an attack on the peace and harmony of our community,” he said. FIIDS said it is deeply concerned that the UK and the US have failed to meet commitments under the Vienna Convention on the Security of Diplomatic Missions. Meanwhile, pro-Khalistan protesters gathered outside the Australian Parliament in Canberra to protest against the Punjab police crackdown on radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his associates.
