Washington: The security provided to the President in America is considered to be the tightest in the world. But the date of March 30, 1981, is the black date in American history, on which US President Ronald Reagan was shot. John Hinckley, watching a movie, plotted to assassinate the president. After this, President Ronald Reagan was shot outside the hotel in Washington DC amid tight security. During the hearing, the judge found him not guilty of murder because he was mentally ill. He was released on bail last year. Now the Federal Court has ruled Hinkley completely free after 41 years.

US District Court Judge Paul L. Friedman said in September that if Hinckley continued to live a decent life in Virginia, the court would free him from all remaining sanctions on June 15. At a hearing in Washington on Wednesday, Friedman said Hinckley continued to do well. The judge has not changed his plans for complete independence from court oversight. The judge said, “They have been investigated. He has passed every exam. He is no longer a danger to himself or others.”

According to the Associated Press, the judge further said, ‘John Hinckley turns 67 this Sunday. He was deeply upset by Reagan’s shooting but had received mental health support. Hinckley has shown no signs of active mental illness since the mid-1980s. Also, he has not shown any violent behavior or interest in weapons.

The jury did not plead guilty because
The jury found him not guilty of having been found mentally ill in the murder of Ronald Reagan. After this, Hinckley was kept in a mental hospital in Washington for more than two decades. From 2003, Friedman allowed Hinckley to participate in small events, attend medical seminars, and travel. Hinckley has been living in Virginia full-time since 2016. However, he is still subject to some restrictions.

How was Reagan assassinated?
That was March 30, 1981. President Ronald Reagan was on his way from the hotel to his limousine. Hinkley Jr., who was present there, fired six bullets at him with the famous German pistol Roem. The news of the attack spread like wildfire across America and the world. Everyone was surprised to hear such an attack on the President of the world’s most powerful country.

Reagan did not wear a bulletproof jacket
By the way, after the assassination of President Kennedy, the security of US Presidents was tightened very much. He had to wear a bulletproof jacket almost all the time. Apart from this, the same rule also applied to his bodyguard. But at that time Ronald Reagan was not wearing a bulletproof jacket, because his car was parked only 30 feet away from him. All his bodyguards were attentive but were oblivious to the fact that a revolver in the hand of a man present there was waiting for Ronald Reagan.

Had barely survived
However, none of the bullets hit Reagan directly in the attack. After firing, all the security personnel took him into their circle. In this circle, he was taken to his car. Then a bullet hit his bulletproof glass and hit his left chest. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. Within a month of the incident, Reagan returned to his work at the White House. He was elected President of America twice. He is counted among the most successful presidents of America. He also had a major contribution to ending the Cold War. He died on 5 June 2004.
