Washington: The newly elected President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has announced the names of additional members of the White House’s communications and press staff, with Indian American Vedanta Patel being named assistant press secretary. Patel is currently a senior spokesperson for Biden’s inaugural committee and has also been part of the Biden campaign in which he served as regional communications director. He has previously served as the Director of Communications for Indian-American Congress Member Pramila Jaipal.
Patel was born in the Indian state of Gujarat and grew up in California. Patel is a graduate of University-Riverside and University of Florida. Three Indian-Americans have been White House press officers so far, including Patel. Priya Singh was the first Indian American among White House press officials, she was the press secretary in the Obama administration from January 2009 to May 2010. Subsequently, from 2017 to 2019, Raj Shah served as Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President at the White House. Biden hired 16 people, including Patel, as White House Communications and press officials on Friday.
