New Delhi: The pockets of the general public are going to be hit once again. In such a way, if you go to the market to buy any goods from Monday, then definitely check your budget once. From Monday, many things of household items are going to be expensive. The things that are going to get expensive include your favorite items like paneer, curd, lassi, and buttermilk.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs on Thursday decided to do away with the tax exemption for certain items including pre-packaged, pre-labeled curd, lassi, and buttermilk among others. The prices of these things will increase from Monday, July 18.

In the meeting of the GST Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, it has been decided to end the exemption from these things. After which now the general public will have to pay GST on these things at the rate of 5 percent. However, goods that are not packed or not covered under any brand will continue to be exempted from GST. So let’s know which goods became expensive.

  • GST exemption on pre-packaged and labeled meat and fish, curd, lassi, paneer, honey, and cereals have been abolished. Now, these items will attract GST at the rate of 5 percent.
  • From Monday, 18 percent GST will be levied on the charges levied by banks for the issuance of cheques.
  • Hospital rooms above Rs 5,000 will now have to be charged even more. On which 5 percent GST will also have to be paid.
  • GST on maps, atlases, and globes will have to be paid at the rate of 12 percent.
  • For LED lights, fixtures, and LED lamps, the customer will now have to pay more. On which 18 percent GST will be levied. Earlier the rate of GST on these items was 12 percent.
  • The GST on blades, knives, pencil sharpeners, spoons, forks, ladles, etc. has been increased to 18 percent.
  • Printing, writing, or drawing ink, electric water pumps will now become expensive. The price of the cycle pump will also increase. These will now attract 18 percent GST.
  • Machinery used for cleaning, sorting or grading grain in mills, windmills, and water mills will have to pay higher GST.
  • Eggs, fruits, or other agricultural products and machines for cleaning, sorting, or grading them and machinery used in the dairy industry will attract 18 percent GST.
  • Solar water heaters will also be expensive now.
  • Finished leather and composition leather will attract 12 percent GST.
  • Hotel rooms priced up to Rs 1000 will attract 12 percent. Earlier there was a discount on this.
  • Contracts for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plants, crematoriums, etc. will attract 18 percent GST.
