Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Thursday. Due to heavy rains in the state, many areas have also been submerged. Due to this one person has died. Whereas, around five lakh people are affected in 12 districts. Landslides have occurred in some villages. Around 3.5 lakh animals have been affected due to the floods.

According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), one person died due to floods in Tamulpur in Udalguri district. This is the first case of death due to floods this year.

According to ASDMA reports, more than 4,95,700 people have been affected due to floods in Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur, and Udalguri districts. Of this, more than 3,25,600 people are from Barpeta alone, which is badly affected. After this, more than 77,700 people have been affected in Nalbari and about 25,700 people in Lakhimpur.

Let us inform you that till Wednesday, about 1.2 lakh people were suffering from floods in 10 districts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ Has issued and for the next few days in many districts of Assam ‘Extremely heavy’ to ‘extremely heavy’ Rain has been predicted.

The administration is running 83 relief camps in seven districts where 14,035 people have taken shelter and 79 relief distribution centers in eight districts. Paramilitary forces, NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), civil administration, NGOs, and local people have rescued 561 people from different places.

The administration has distributed 1,265 quintals of rice, pulses, and salt and 5,269.80 liters of mustard oil among the flood victims during the last 24 hours. The ASDMA said that currently, 1,366 villages are under water. 14,091.90 hectares of crop area have been damaged across Assam. ASDMA said large-scale erosion has been observed in Sonitpur, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nalbari, South Salmara, and Udalguri.

ASDMA informed that landslides have been reported in Gaigaon and Dima Hasao due to heavy rains. Embankments, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters in Barpeta, Sonitpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Baksa, Chirang, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji and Dibrugarh. Urban areas were inundated at many places in Barpeta, Darrang, Jorhat, Kamrup Metropolitan, and Kokrajhar districts.

According to the ASDMA, the Brahmaputra at Dhubri and Nematighat, its tributaries Beki at Road Bridge, Manas at NH Road Crossing, Pagladiya and Puthimari at NT Road Crossing are flowing above the danger mark. Over 3,46,600 domestic animals have been affected across the state due to the floods.
