In a groundbreaking development, the Telangana government has partnered with Google to establish India’s first Google Safety Engineering Center (GSEC) in Hyderabad. This specialized international cybersecurity hub is set to be a game-changer for India’s digital landscape, focusing on developing cutting-edge safety solutions tailored to Indian users.
GSEC: A Global Benchmark in Cybersecurity
The Hyderabad GSEC will be the second in the Asia-Pacific region and the fifth globally, joining the ranks of established centers in Tokyo, Dublin, Munich, and Malaga. The facility underscores Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a premier IT and innovation hub.
According to a press release by the Telangana government, this partnership is aimed at boosting cybersecurity infrastructure. The GSEC will spearhead efforts to combat online threats, including the rise of financial fraud linked to the surge in digital payments across India.
Chief Minister Hails Hyderabad’s Growing IT Prowess
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed pride in Hyderabad’s selection for the GSEC.
“This collaboration with Google reaffirms Hyderabad’s leadership in the IT and innovation sectors, not just in India but globally,” he said.
Focus Areas: Online Safety and AI-Powered Fraud Prevention
The GSEC will specialize in developing advanced online safety products for Indian users, addressing critical challenges such as financial fraud. The center’s initiatives will include leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and prevent fraudulent activities.
Google India MD Roma Dutta Choubey highlighted the importance of safety in the digital ecosystem.
“For the Internet to empower nearly a billion Indians, it must remain a safe and trustworthy place,” she said.
Impressive Track Record in Fraud Prevention
Google’s commitment to user safety is already evident through initiatives like Google Pay, which integrates AI and machine learning to counter scams. Since 2023, Google has successfully prevented scams worth ₹13,000 crore and issued over 41 million warnings to Indian users.
Intelligent Traffic Management: A New Frontier
The partnership may also explore the development of India’s first Google-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System in Hyderabad. This advanced system is expected to enhance urban mobility and safety.
