New Delhi: In a significant shift within India’s competitive two-wheeler market, Honda Motorcycles has surged ahead of Hero MotoCorp, becoming the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country based on July 2024 sales figures. This development marks a pivotal moment in the automotive industry, reflecting Honda’s growing dominance and Hero’s current challenges.
According to the latest wholesale sales data, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) sold an impressive 4,39,118 units in the domestic market in July 2024. In addition to this, Honda exported 43,982 units, bringing its total sales to a remarkable 4,83,100 units for the month. This performance has propelled Honda to the top spot in India’s highly competitive two-wheeler segment.
In contrast, Hero MotoCorp, long considered the leader in the Indian two-wheeler market, reported domestic sales of 3,47,535 units in July 2024. The company also exported 22,739 units, resulting in total wholesale sales of 3,70,274 units. This significant gap in sales highlights the challenges Hero is currently facing.
Hero MotoCorp has attributed the decline in its domestic sales to ongoing supply chain disruptions and transport issues. These logistical challenges have led to reduced vehicle dispatches, directly impacting sales figures. Despite this setback, Hero remains optimistic, with plans to recover lost ground by the upcoming festive season, a critical period for automobile sales in India.
The success of Honda in July 2024 can be attributed to the strong demand for its popular models, including the Shine 100, Shine 125, SP125, SP160, and Unicorn, and its flagship scooters, Activa and Activa 125. These models have consistently performed well in the market, catering to a wide range of consumers with their reliability, fuel efficiency, and brand trust.
Hero’s Challenges:
Hero MotoCorp attributes the decline in domestic sales to supply chain and transportation issues. However, the company remains optimistic, aiming to recover during the upcoming festive season.
