
Bangalore: Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, is in a bad condition due to heavy rains. Torrential rains are still continuing, inundating many areas. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday announced a release of Rs 300 crore to tackle the floods in Bengaluru. According to news agency PTI, the announcement came at night, when the chief minister held a meeting with senior ministers and officials to take stock of the flood situation in the southern state and the damage caused by it.
The CM announced that the money released would be used to repair infrastructures like roads, electric poles, transformers, and schools. The Chief Minister further said that a total of Rs 1,500 crore has been set aside for the construction of a drain for the drainage of flood water in Bengaluru. He said that the work will start after the stagnant water recedes.
Bommai said that the state government has decided to form one more company of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) entirely for Bengaluru. At the same time, Rs 9.50 crore is being released for boats and other equipment for the areas affected by the torrential rains in the state.
CM further said that in the coming days, two more companies of SDRF will be established at the state level. Bommai said that between September 1 and 5, some parts of Bengaluru received 150 percent more rainfall than normal. While other areas like Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, and KR Puram have received 307 percent more rainfall than normal.
The CM said that this is the highest rainfall in Bengaluru in the last 32 years (1992-93). 164 lakes in India’s Silicon Valley have been filled with the water of this heavy rain. On Monday, people from many parts of the city were evacuated from their homes using boats, tractors, and even earth movers. Along with this, there has been a flood of photos and videos of submerged roads in the city on social media. Many people have given their experiences to deal with the situation of water logging.

Loss so far
Significantly, due to the heavy rains, many lakes, ponds, and drains in the city have been filled with water and water has entered the houses in low-lying areas, affecting normal life. At the same time, many videos are going viral on social media in which it is seen that there is such a situation of waterlogging that even passengers are being taken out of the airport through tractors. At the same time, ‘The Outer Ring Road Companies Association’ has advised employees working in the IT sector to work from home for the time being.
