New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for five states, including Delhi. Residents of Delhi can expect relief from the oppressive heat as the weather is set to cool down significantly today. The entire National Capital Region (NCR) will experience cooler temperatures, with strong, cold winds and the possibility of rain. Noida and Ghaziabad are also on alert. Additionally, a red alert has been issued for several hilly states.
The IMD has warned of potential landslides in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, leading to a prohibition on tourists visiting these mountainous regions. Continuous rainfall in these areas has raised river water levels, with the Yamuna already flowing above the danger mark, prompting alerts for residents in low-lying areas.
IMD Warning: Difficult Days Ahead for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh
According to the IMD, the next five days will be challenging for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, with forecasts of strong winds, heavy rains, and lightning. Landslides are also a possibility in some areas, along with potential snowfall. In Uttar Pradesh, similar weather conditions are expected, with rain and lightning predicted for the next five days. Residents are advised to avoid trees during storms.
Rain Expected in Multiple States
Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Punjab, can expect light rain. Sporadic rainfall is also forecasted for Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh over the next five days, urging residents to remain cautious. In Bihar, continuous rain has caused the Kosi River to reach the danger mark.
Safety Precautions Advised
Yesterday, a major accident was narrowly avoided due to sudden rainfall at a waterfall in Rohtas. Residents of Bihar are advised to stay away from rivers and waterfalls. Overall, cooler weather is expected in most states for the next five days, with moderate to heavy rain in some areas.
