New Delhi: The England team had a very poor start in the first match of the ODI series against India (IND vs ENG 1st ODI). In front of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, the legendary batsman of the team looked helpless. Bumrah broke the back of the host team by taking 4 wickets in his first 4 overs. A bad record was also recorded in the name of England, which hardly any other team would like to make.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited England to bat first at the Kennington Oval ground in London. Hardly the captain of the host team, Jos Buttler, would have thought that the beginning would be like this. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah got the second over of the innings in which he took 2 wickets. Bumrah bowled English opener Jason Roy (0) on the third ball of the over. On the last ball of the same over, Joe Root (0) was also caught by Bumrah at the hands of Pant.
Then Shami sent Ben Stokes to the pavilion without opening the account on the fourth ball of his second (third of the innings). Bumrah got Jonny Bairstow (7) caught by Rishabh Pant on the third ball of his third (sixth) over. Due to this England’s score became 17 runs for 4 wickets. Bumrah again bowled Liam Livingstone in his fourth (innings 8th) over without even opening an account. Half of England’s team had returned to the pavilion by just 26 runs.
A poor record was recorded in the name of the English team. Never 5 wickets of any team against India fell on such a low score in ODIs. Earlier, in the one-day match played in Colombo in 1997, India took 5 wickets of Pakistan to the score of 29. Indian bowlers took Zimbabwe’s 5 wickets for 30 runs in Harare in 2005, while in 1997 in Port of Spain half of the West Indies team was sent to the pavilion for 32 runs.
