New Delhi: The server of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in the national capital Delhi is running down for 6 consecutive days. A big update has come out in this matter. The hackers have demanded Rs 200 crore from AIIMS. Hackers have demanded Rs 200 crore through crypto currency. After 6 days, after the demand of money from the hackers, the investigating agencies are on alert mode.
Data of crores of patients affected
The burglary was discovered on Wednesday morning. It is feared that the data of about 3-4 crore patients may be affected due to the breach. The patient care services in the emergency unit, outpatients, admitted patients and laboratory section are being managed paper-wise due to the server down, sources said. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Delhi Police and representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs are investigating the ransomware attack.
Delhi Police registered the case
Ransomware attacks block access to computers and hackers demand money to grant access. A case of extortion and cyber terrorism was registered on November 25 by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police.
Internet service stopped in AIIMS
Official sources said internet services on computers in the hospital have been suspended on the recommendations of the probe agencies. AIIMS servers store data of many Very Important Persons (VIPs), including former prime ministers, ministers, bureaucrats and judges. “The hackers have reportedly demanded around Rs 200 crore in cryptocurrency,” a source told PTI.
Meanwhile, NIC e-hospital database and application server for e-hospital have been restored. An official source said the National Informatics Center (NIC) team is scanning and cleaning the ‘infection’ from other e-hospital servers located at AIIMS, which are essential for delivery of hospital services. Four servers arranged for restoration of e-hospital services have been scanned and made ready for database and application.
He said that the work to make AIIMS network virus free is underway. Anti-virus solutions are provided for servers and computers. It is installed on about 1,200 out of 5,000 computers. The source said that 20 out of 50 servers have been scanned and this activity is being done continuously.
“The work to restore the network is likely to continue for five more days. Thereafter, the e-hospital services can be started in a phased manner. Patient care services including services like emergency, outpatient, admitted patient, laboratory are being handled hand in hand.
