It may be known that Gita Press was established in the year 1921 by Jaidayal Goenka in Govind Bhavan Trust in Kolkata, from this trust Gita was published. Errors used to remain in the books during printing, for which Goenka ji complained to the owner of the press, then he said that if you want the publication of such a pure Gita, establish your own press. After which there was talk of setting up a press to publish the Gita, then it was decided to set up a press in Gorakhpur. After this, on April 29, 1923, the publication of Gita was started in the Hindi market by taking a room at a rent of Rs.10 per month. After which Geeta Press was gradually formed.
Books are published in 15 languages including Shrimad Bhagat Geeta, Ramcharit Manas, Puranas, and Upanishads from Geeta Press. These include Hindi, Sanskrit, Bangla, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Assamese, Oriya, Urdu, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, English, Nepali, etc. languages. So far, more than 92.5 crore books of about 1850 types have been published by Geeta Press.
