New Delhi: As Diwali celebrations light up homes across India, the latest surge in fuel prices threatens to dim spirits, with petrol and diesel rates seeing an increase effective from November 1. The revised rates have affected major cities from Delhi to Patna, while even Port Blair, traditionally known for offering the lowest fuel prices in the country, is feeling the pinch.
Nationwide Fuel Price Increases Affect Major Cities
In the nation’s capital, Delhi, petrol prices have climbed from Rs 94.72 per liter to Rs 94.77, and diesel has also inched upward from Rs 87.62 to Rs 87.67 per liter. Similar hikes are reported in the National Capital Region, reflecting the nationwide trend.
Mumbai residents now face an elevated cost of Rs 103.44 per liter for petrol and Rs 89.97 for diesel, marking Mumbai as one of the highest-priced metros. Kolkata follows closely, with petrol now priced at Rs 104.93 per liter and diesel at Rs 91.75. Chennai has also seen a notable rise, with petrol costing Rs 100.79 per liter and diesel priced at Rs 92.38.
Even Port Blair Sees Price Hikes
Port Blair, known for its more affordable fuel rates, has not been spared. Petrol prices have increased from Rs 82.42 to Rs 82.46 per liter, while diesel prices have gone from Rs 78.01 to Rs 78.05 per liter, indicating that even India’s most affordable fuel zones are facing price hikes.
Rising Global Crude Prices Fuel Domestic Hikes
These hikes reflect the recent global rise in crude oil prices. Over the past 24 hours, the price of Brent crude has risen by approximately $1.50, reaching $72.75 per barrel. Similarly, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude now stands at $68.81 per barrel, contributing to the upward pressure on fuel costs across India.
With the festival season underway, the increase in fuel prices is expected to impact the cost of transportation and, subsequently, the prices of essential goods, adding a layer of financial strain to households celebrating Diwali.
