Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar replaced Ashok Lavasa as new Election Commissioner

New Delhi: Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar has been appointed as the new Election Commissioner. He will replace Ashok Lavasa. The Law Ministry issued this information by issuing a notification on Friday night. The ministry said that Rajiv Kumar will replace the current Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, who is relieving his charge on August 31.


The Law Ministry said in the notification, ‘The President is happy with the appointment of Rajiv Kumar to the post of Election Commissioner. His appointment as Election Commissioner will be effective from the moment Ashok Lavasa resigns. Please tell that Rajiv Kumar is a 1984 batch Jharkhand cadre officer of the Indian Administrative Service.


Ashok Lavasa resigned from the post of Election Commissioner on Tuesday, as he will now take over as the vice-chairman of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Explain that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated Rajiv Kumar as Finance Secretary. He was appointed Finance Secretary in place of Subhash Chandra Garg. Garg was transferred and made a power secretary.
