Washington: Billionaire Elon Musk a few days ago suggested a way to “possible deal” to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which was widely condemned in Ukraine. He has now suggested that tensions between China and Taiwan could be resolved by handing over some of Taiwan’s control to Beijing. Musk, the world’s richest man, told the Financial Times in an interview published on Friday, “My recommendation would be to find a special administrative region for Taiwan, which, if reasonably acceptable, may not please everyone.”
Elon Musk made the remarks when asked by the newspaper about his opinion on the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, where his company Tesla operates a large electric car manufacturing factory in Shanghai. Beijing claims that democratically governed Taiwan is one of its provinces. It has long vowed to take Taiwan under its control and has not ruled out using force to do so. Taiwan’s government strongly objected to China’s claims of sovereignty, saying only the island’s 23 million people can decide its future.

The Financial Times quoted Elon Musk as saying, “And it’s possible, and I think maybe, in fact, they might have a system that’s more lenient than Hong Kong’s.” About half of the global deliveries were comprised of the Shanghai factory. Musk also said that China has sought assurances that it will not offer Starlink internet service to its SpaceX rocket company in Taiwan. Musk said he thinks the conflict over Taiwan is inevitable and warned of its potential impact on not only Tesla but iPhone maker Apple Inc and the broader economy. The Financial Times did not elaborate on his comments.
