Washington: Republican Neera Tanden of Indian Origin nominated by Joe Biden as Director of Management and Budget Office (OMB), elected as the next President of the United States. The Republican Party and some left-leaning Democratic leaders are facing opposition due to “aggressive and controversial” tweets.
Some senior Republican leaders have publicly opposed Tandon’s nomination. Meanwhile, some reformist Democrats believe Tandon’s nomination will be a test of whether the Left will challenge Biden’s selection.
In fact, Tandon, a close ally of former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, had made aggressive remarks against Democratic critics of the former US Secretary of State. David Sirota, who has written a speech for left-wing senator Bernie Sanders, said that if Tandon (leftists) were elected to the OMB without a challenge, it would mean that the reformists did not want to challenge Biden.
Sanders has said nothing publicly against Tandon’s nomination, but moderate senators such as Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown have voiced their support. Republican senators, on the other hand, are angry with Nira’s old “aggressive and insulting” remarks against several members of the Senate. Tandon, 50, will be the first black woman of Indian descent to head the US Office of Management and Budget if her appointment is approved by the Senate.
The OMB is responsible for implementing and overseeing the ideas of the US President in all branches of the executive. It is particularly helpful in meeting the President’s policy meetings, budget, management, regulatory objectives and the permanent responsibility of the agencies.
Tandon’s career has focused on helping professional families with economic growth and formulating policies to address inequality. Influential senator and co-chairman of the Senate India Caucus, John Carnin, has called Tandon’s nomination Biden’s worst ever. “I believe that his ‘aggressive and insulting’ remarks against members of the Senate, especially those on our side, will make it difficult for him to confirm his name,” he said.
“Tandon has removed a number of previous tweets in the past few weeks that seem childish, it seems that people will not have access to those tweets,” Cornin said. He alleged that Nira had deleted more than a thousand tweets, including those criticizing Republican Party members. Tandon has 3,13,400 followers on Twitter and is quite active on this platform.
In the past, Nira has been a vocal critic of Republican senators and President Donald Trump. Nikki Haley, a Republican leader in the United States, said Biden’s decision to nominate Nira Tandon as director of the Office of Management and Budget was “worrying” because he had made “many wrong decisions” in the past.
Haley said in a tweet, “Tandon has made wrong decisions many times in the past. He had said that Donald Trump was involved in a “conspiracy against America” and tried to humiliate Republican lawmakers several times. Tandon simply works on her policy. That’s why Biden nominated him. ” In a tweet, Tandon referred to Mitch McConnell, the leader of the majority party in the Senate, as “Moscow Mitch”.
