While demonstrating during the Bharat Bandh, these people included some demands including abolishing the labor code, withdrawing any kind of privatization, scrapping the national monetization pipeline, increasing the allocation of wages under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act). In Tamil Nadu, various trade unions, including the ruling DMK-led trade union Labor Progressive Federation, joined the strike. However, during this time the bus services of state-run transport corporations have resumed operations, giving relief to the passengers.
Whereas in Kerala, shops remained closed in Thiruvananthapuram. Here the Communist Party of India’s Pinarayi Vijayan government warned of abstention from work and disciplinary action against those who took part in the strike. In West Bengal, protesters stopped trains and disrupted movement at various places. The nationwide Bharat Bandh was also discussed in Parliament. TMC MP Saugata Roy said that people unhappy with the policies of the central government, various organizations across the country supported this strike. At the same time, Congress MP Shakti Singh Gohil gave notice under Rule 267 for discussion in the House on this two-day nationwide strike.
