New Delhi: The Modi Government has given a gift to the countrymen on the occasion of New Year by reducing the prices of commercial gas cylinders. This is welcome news for those struggling with inflation and rising fuel prices. However, the prices of domestic gas cylinders remain the same as before.
How much reduction in prices?
Oil companies announce new gas cylinder rates on the first of every month. Last month, the Centre reduced the price of commercial cylinders by Rs 30.50, giving a big relief to the traders. This month, the prices of commercial cylinders have been further reduced by a few rupees. The following table shows the current and previous prices of commercial cylinders in different cities:

The prices of domestic gas cylinders are subsidized by the government and are revised every month based on the international market rates of crude oil and foreign exchange rates. The government bears the difference between the market price and the subsidized price as a subsidy.
