Washington: The US expressed concern over the Chinese military’s pressure on Taiwan and said that such intimidation tactics are a threat to regional peace and stability. “The US is concerned about the efforts of the People’s Republic of China to threaten its neighbors, including Taiwan,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ned Price said on Saturday.
In a statement, he requested Beijing to end its military, diplomatic and economic pressure on Taiwan to have meaningful dialogue with the democratically elected Taiwanese representatives. He said, “We stand with friends and colleagues to advance shared prosperity, security, and values in the Indian Pacific region.”
Price said the US would continue to support the peaceful resolution of issues across the straits. He said that the US continues to live up to the commitments underlined in the Three Communities, Taiwan Relations Act, and Six Assurances. “We will help Taiwan retain adequate self-defense capabilities,” Price said. Our commitment to Taiwan is strong and will contribute to maintaining peace and stability across the Strait of Taiwan and the region.
