WASHINGTON: China may go “very fast” on its plan to annex Taiwan under President Xi Jinping’s leadership. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made these remarks after Jinping’s plan to annex Taiwan to China was announced at the Congress of the Communist Party of China. Blinken says that the Chinese government is following its plan to annex Taiwan very quickly under Xi Jinping. The US Secretary of State has said that if Taiwan is annexed by China, it can lead to a major economic crisis in the whole world.
In a conversation with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at Stanford University on Monday, Blinken said that peace and stability between China and Taiwan have been successfully maintained for decades. But now Beijing has changed its attitude. Blinken said that instead of maintaining the status quo in a positive manner, Beijing has taken a new decision that the status quo is no longer acceptable. At the same time, Beijing is determined to move rapidly to integrate Taiwan into China. If peaceful means do not work for this, then force will be used. This is creating tremendous tension.
Significantly, in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the PLA conducted a major military exercise near Taiwan’s main island in August. Since then, there has been a great increase in the incidents of violation of Taiwan’s border. Beijing has made it clear that it intends to annex Taiwan. In such a situation, now defense experts around the world are speculating about its time limit. At present, America’s intelligence about China is considered to be very little compared to its intelligence on Russia. In 2010 Chinese officials said they had destroyed an American spy ring inside the country. Then 20 CIA spies were reported to have been killed or imprisoned.
