Mumbai: A shocking incident has come to light in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, where a car driver dragged a traffic police constable for about 20 km. However, thankfully no untoward incident took place. The police arrested the accused car driver. The young man was going by breaking the signal. After this, the constable tried to stop him. But the young man did not stop the car and the constable fell on the bonnet of the car. The incident is of last Saturday. In the footage of the incident, it is clearly visible how the constable is protecting himself.
According to the Times of India report, the police have arrested Aditya Bemde (23), a resident of Nerul, the driver of the car. Police said that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Traffic constable Siddheshwar Mali (37) had a narrow escape after being badly trapped in the front part of the car. Usually, it takes at least 15-20 minutes to cover this distance. This incident has been captured in CCTV cameras installed at many places on Palm Beach Road. Constable Siddheshwar Mali tried to stop the car driver at Blue Diamond Junction by breaking the red signal and ramming into a scooter. But the driver increased the speed.
Before the constable could move out of the way of the car, he fell on the bonnet. Still refusing to stop, the car driver made a left turn onto Palm Beach Road. During this, he tried several times to make the soldier fall from the bonnet. By then the police control room had received information that a policeman was being dragged on the bonnet of the car. On the way, the police were alerted by wireless messages. After this, the police caught the car driver.
Senior Inspector Shashikant Chandekar of Vashi police station said, “The medical examination of the driver has confirmed that he was driving under the influence of marijuana.” The arrested person has been booked for an attempt to murder and has also been booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
