Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) has detected a tunnel near the fencing on the India-Pakistan Border International border in Jammu. The officials gave this information on Saturday. He said that the force has carried out a major operation in the entire area to ascertain whether there are such tunnels anywhere else. Simultaneously, an analysis is being carried out of these three to a four-foot-wide tunnel which may have been used for the infiltration of terrorists and smuggling of drugs and weapons.
Officials said BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana has instructed the commanders deployed along the border to ensure that the anti-infiltration system remains effective and there are no flaws on the border. During the patrolling on Thursday, BSF personnel in the Galar area of Samba sector of Jammu detected this tunnel near the border fence in Indian territory.
Officials told PTI that the force later inspected the tunnel and found eight to ten sand bags at its mouth, which are made in Pakistan. The senior officer said that BSF got apprehensive due to subsidence of land at some places after the recent rains. The official said an urgent machine was called to locate the tunnel, which is located in Indian territory, about 170 meters from the international border.
Officials said that inspection on the spot revealed that the tunnel was under construction. According to sources, the tunnel was built at a depth of around 25 feet and it opens near BSF ‘whaleback’ outpost. He said that BSF Inspector General (Jammu) NS Jamwal also visited the spot and reviewed the operation.
Officials said that eight to ten sacks of green sand have been found at the mouth of the tunnel with ‘Karachi’ and ‘Shakargarh’ written on them. The date of construction and expiry date recorded on them indicates that they have been constructed recently. He said that the distance from the tunnel to Pakistani border post ‘Gulzar’ is about 700 meters. The BSF pointed to Pakistan’s “deep involvement” amid fears of infiltration on this front.
“With the detection of this tunnel, vigilant BSF personnel have foiled the Pakistani conspiracy to infiltrate Indian territory,” the force said in a statement. The tunnel starts from the Pakistani side of the international border. ” The Jammu Frontier branch of the force said, “Terrorist intentions involving the Pakistani institution have once again been thwarted by the vigilance of BSF personnel deployed in our anti-infiltration multi-level array.”
“There is constant information about the presence of terrorists in the villages in the area of Pakistan, who are trying to infiltrate into Indian territory, but vigilant BSF personnel have entered into anti-national elements in India and commit terrorist activities,” the statement said. Has failed the plans Jamwal said, “Looking at the tunnel, I can say that the Pakistani establishment has a hand in it and it was built in the knowledge of it.” “The date recorded on the sand bags indicates that the tunnel was dug recently,” he told reporters. We are investigating the entire matter. “
It is noteworthy that after the recent death of five armed intruders in Punjab bordering the international border, BSF has conducted a large tunnel search operation on the international border. BSF is responsible for the security of the nearly 3,300 km international border adjoining Pakistan and in the past, tunnels have been detected in Jammu areas bordering the border.
