As the political climate in West Bengal reaches its boiling point ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched an aggressive bid for power. Today, April 10, 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the party’s “Sankalp Patra,” rebranded for this cycle as the “Bharosa Patra,” during a high-profile event in Kolkata. The document is built around the core slogan, “Bharose Ka Shapath Prakash; Bhay Nahi, Bharosa” (The Pledge of Trust Revealed: Not Fear, But Trust), signaling a direct challenge to the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) long-standing dominance.
The manifesto is designed to address the most pressing grievances of the Bengali electorate, particularly the middle class, youth, and women. By promising the 7th Pay Commission, the BJP is directly courting state government employees, a demographic that has staged numerous protests over stagnant Dearness Allowance (DA) rates in recent years.
Prime Minister Modi’s Six Pillars of Governance
Central to the manifesto are six “Guarantees” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which the party claims will dismantle what they describe as a “culture of intimidation.”
- A Fear-Free Bengal: The BJP promises to purge the state of political violence and institutionalized fear, replacing it with a transparent administration.
- People-First System: Reforming the state machinery to ensure that welfare schemes reach the intended beneficiaries without the interference of “middlemen” or local syndicates.
- Reopening Files of Justice: In a significant move, the party vowed to reopen every investigation related to recruitment scams, coal and sand smuggling, and specific instances of violence against women, such as the incidents reported in Sandeshkhali.
- Action Against Corruption: Amit Shah emphasized that no one, regardless of their political rank or administrative status, would be spared if found guilty of embezzling public funds.
- Curbing Infiltration: The manifesto strikes a firm chord on border issues, promising to grant full rights to refugees under the CAA while strictly identifying and expelling illegal infiltrators.
- Economic Parity: Beyond the 7th Pay Commission, the party has outlined special financial packages for health and education to bring Bengal’s infrastructure on par with India’s leading industrial states.
Focus on Migration and Rural Welfare
Recognizing the issue of “brain drain” and labor migration, the BJP’s roadmap includes the creation of local industrial hubs to prevent the state’s youth from seeking low-wage work in other parts of the country. For the agrarian sector, the manifesto promises a significant increase in the direct benefit transfer for farmers, aiming to supplement the existing central schemes with state-specific incentives.
The Campaign Trail: Shah Heads to Medinipur
The launch of the “Bharosa Patra” serves as the opening salvo for a blitzkrieg campaign across the state. Immediately following the ceremony in Kolkata, the Home Minister departed for West Medinipur, a critical electoral battleground.
At 3:00 PM today, Shah is scheduled to address a massive public gathering at the Balichak Bhajahari High School grounds in Debra. This will be followed by a second major rally at 5:00 PM at the Atulmoni School in Kharagpur Sadar. These rallies are expected to set the tone for the BJP’s outreach in South Bengal, as the party attempts to convert its “Document of Trust” into a winning electoral mandate.
