New Delhi: As the monsoon enters its final stages, it has intensified over parts of North India, leading to significant disruption. Bihar is bearing the brunt of the torrential downpours, with several districts facing flood-like conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for almost the entire state for today, September 17.

A very heavy rain warning is specifically in place for Gopalganj district, while a heavy rain alert has been issued for West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, and Saran. Yellow alerts, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning, are active in other parts of the state. The situation is particularly grim in Munger, where incessant rains have caused floods in 33 panchayats across six blocks, affecting an estimated two lakh people.

Weather in Uttar Pradesh

Meanwhile, the weather in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, and its surrounding areas is expected to remain relatively calm and pleasant today. The sky will be cloudy, with possibilities of light rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. While rainy conditions may persist, the IMD has indicated that the chances of heavy rainfall will decrease after noon, though light drizzle may continue. The minimum temperature in Lucknow is forecast to be around 26-27 degrees Celsius, with the maximum reaching 28-30 degrees Celsius.

Forecast for the Coming Days

According to the IMD, the current spell of heavy rain in Bihar is expected to continue for a few more days. On September 18, heavy rainfall is likely to persist in most parts of the state, excluding some districts in the south-west and south-central regions. For September 19, heavy rain is forecast for North Bihar and districts including Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, and Khagaria. A forecast from the Bihar Agricultural University suggests that intermittent light to moderate rainfall will continue until September 21, after which the weather is expected to gradually normalize. Authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid waterlogged areas.
