Faridabad: Haryana’s Sarv Khaps Panchayat has given a big statement amid the bill introduced by the Central Government to increase the age of marriage of girls to 21 years across the country. The Sarv Khap Panchayat has unanimously stated that the age of girls should be 21 years for marriage in the court, but marriage should be valid even at the age of 18 with the consent of the parents. At the same time, Khap Mahapanchayat was organized to amend the Hindu Marriage Act. In this, Khap Panchayats from all over the state participated. Two issues were discussed in this Mahapanchayat, including a bill to prohibit marriage in a village and gotra and to increase the marriage age of a girl from 18 years to 21 years.

In this Mahapanchayat, representatives of Khap Panchayats demanded from the Central Government that there should be a legal ban on marriage in one village and one gotra. It said that the Khap Panchayats have no problem with the decision of the Central Government to raise the age of marriage of girls to 21 years, but they have demanded from the Central Government that if the parents want to marry their daughter at the age of 18, if necessary. So they should be allowed for this.

According to Khap representatives, a resolution was passed in the six-hour-long Mahapanchayat to amend the Hindu Marriage Act to legally ban marriages in one village and one gotra. In the Mahapanchayat, the marriage of a boy and a girl of one gotra was declared invalid. Apart from this, their opinion will be known for determining the age of marriage from girls studying in college and university and their opinion should be given importance.

In the Mahapanchayat, while brainstorming on the decision of the Central Government to raise the age of marriage of girls to 21 years, a resolution was passed that the age of 21 is right in the case of court marriage. However, parental consent is required for this. It also states that if the parents or guardians want the girl to be married at the age of 18, if necessary, then it should also be valid.

Addressing the Khap Mahapanchayat, this Khap leader Sube Samain said that the government should also impose restrictions that no marriage can take place without the consent of the parents. Other Khap leaders also addressed this Mahapanchayat.
