Washington: US President Joe Biden greeted the Jain community on the concluding day of the Paryushan and Dashlakshana festival. There are more than 150,000 people of the Jain community in America, which is the largest number of this community anywhere outside India.
Biden wrote on Facebook on Sunday, “Jill and I extend our best wishes to the people of the Jain community in America and around the world whose Paryushan and Dashlakshana festivals have come to an end.” He further wrote, “In this time of introspection and forgiveness, may we find peace and contentment in life. Micchami Dukkadam and perfect forgiveness.” People of the Jain community fast and meditate for eight to ten days during the Paryushan festival. The ten-day festival begins after Dasalakshana Paryushan.
The people of the Jain community in America welcomed the message of the US President. South Asian community leader Ajay Bhutoria thanked the US President for extending his best wishes to the people of the Jain community. Acharya Lokesh Muni also welcomed the wishes of the US President.
