Painting is a very precious thing. Artists put full force into making it. Obviously, if someone likes the painting, then they are ready to pay the asking price for it. But a British artist set the paintings worth 90 crores on fire. Not only this, but he also showed these paintings burning in the fire live on social media. Everyone was surprised to see this. But this artist named Damien Hirst later explained the reason behind it.
Renowned British artist Damien Hirst, 57, set his painting on fire at his Newport Street gallery in London. He will bring fire to thousands more paintings in the coming days. He live-streamed the entire event on Instagram for the entire world, even as a huge group of journalists and a camera crew saw him do it.
Why would an artist burn his art?
Obviously, questions must be arising in your mind why would an artist burn his art? Well, according to a CNN report, Damien had launched a project. Which he named ‘The Currency’. He launched the project last year with a collection of 10,000 dot paintings, each of which was titled, numbered, signed, and linked to the respective NFTs, each costing around Rs 1,64,000.
What is NFT?
These paintings were made under NFT i.e. non fungible tokens. Explain that anything that can be converted into digital form is called NFT. Drawings, photos, and paintings are also being converted to NFT these days. Damien Hirst kept the option of NFT paintings with the buyers. In July this year, the exchange expired, with approximately 5,149 customers opting to keep the original artwork and 4,851 opting to accept NFTs.

Damien clarified
An Instagram post by Damien just before burning his art was captioned, ‘Many people think I’m burning a million dollars worth of art, but it’s not. I am converting these physical artifacts into NFTs by burning them.
