Washington: The Biden administration has appointed two Indian-American experts, Sohini Chatterjee and Aditi Gorur, to two key diplomatic positions in the US mission to the United Nations. According to the official statement, Chatterjee will be the senior policy adviser to the US ambassador in Sanra while Gorur has been appointed policy adviser in the mission. Chatterjee specializes in global development, conflict and collective oppression, and until recently she was a professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

Prior to that, he worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Bureau of Policy, Planning and Learning. In an interview Chatterjee had said that there could be a lot of cooperation between India and the United States in multilateral institutions like the Security Council.

He had said that the Biden administration would engage with India in a more thoughtful and prudent partnership and it would be an opportunity to work with New Delhi to balance China’s growing dominance in the region. Gorur Sanra is an expert in peacekeeping. His primary study focuses on preventing and responding to violence against ordinary citizens. She has also been associated with the Stemson Center and before that she was associated with the Indian Institute for Human Settlement in India.
